| “It
is in the shelter of each other that the people live.”-- Irish
Proverb quoted from Mary Pipher When
the richness and pleasure of your intimate relationship turn harsh
and cold, relationship therapy can help you recover and deepen a
satisfying connection to your lover. Is your relationship troubled
by:
- unresolved anger,
- lonely isolation,
- old wounds whose hurt still brings pain,
- the danger and impossibility of trust,
- not feeling seen or understood,
- your partner always blaming you for being inadequate,
- needing to close off to protect yourself,
- your partner withdrawing from interaction with you and being unavailable,
- sexual intimacy that has lost its interest or is unavailable to
you,
- the specter of unresolved infidelity,
- subtle echoes of early emotional wounding of a partner?
In couples therapy with me, we will work to dissolve the challenging
emotional chaos at the surface of your relationship. Together we
will seek to find and build a safe place of connection between you.
You may learn new relational skills that create safety, openness
and a secure bond between you and your lover. As new patterns of
interaction become established, you will experience the rich pleasures
and security of a safe attachment bond. If one partner experiences
issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety or debilitating illness,
couples therapy can help to create a secure attachment relationship
to support healing for the suffering partner as well as for the
couple.
My work is based on current research in Attachment Theory and Neuropsychology,
and current research and development in Emotionally Focused Couples’
Therapy (EFT). |
